2007 Carnival Report

This Years Redbridge Carnival event was a resounding success we had a maximum crowd of around 800 around the stage during peak times and a total ingres of between 3000 - 4000 people.  Post event all stall mangers confirmed that theyhad gained from the event and would be supporting next years event. Finally Redbridge Carnival has returned!
 
Events on the day included the first ever visit by Her excellency Maleeha Lodhi High Commissioner for Pakistan. She spoke on the 60th anniversary of Pakistan and commeneded the way in which British Pakistanis had integrated in British Society.   Prior to her speech the james Gill Band a Pakistani Christian band played some Ghazals (traditional Pakistani music). In the spirit of community cohesion Huma Basharat a visitor to the UK and full time presenter for Pakistan Radio sang an ode to Pakistan ..................  by joining with the James Gill Band.  
 
Virsa Punjab and Harvey Sahota entertained the Punjabi Element with their Live Dholl Dancing and Punjabi Singing.  Loxford School entertained the masses with their live Steel pan band.  the Redbridge Bhangra and Bollywood school displayed their dancing skills and were the opening event of the day.  World famous Maguire O'shea performed traditional Irish Jigs and dancing, Adanta provided Traditional African Tribal dancing, The London Fire Brigade Cut a vehicle open and showed how they respond to pan fires - warning children and adults of the consequences of fire, Raqs sharqi provided a salacious Egyptian Dancing routine,  Joy of Mauritius provided a sensational belly dancing performance, a traditional Mauritian dance and live music, modern street dancing performance and sega dancing and singing - Panultimate ended the evening with a riveting Bob Marley Tribute!

Our Chairman Wilson Chowdhry with an opening speech of the struggle to reintroduce a Carnival for Redbridge.
 
Mike Gapes MP officially opened the event!  (020 8554 3070)
 
Sgt Somerville of the clementswood SNT talked about the Safer Neighbourhood Concept and its impact (call him on 020 8721 2027)  He alos ran a stall with balloons for children and Crime prevention equipment for adults.
 
Clive Durdle Chairman of the Redbridge Disability Association talked about the "Social Model of disability" (020 8514 2565)
 
MP Lee Scott talked about the benefit of Carnival to Redbridge
 
Cllr Prince stimulated us with a talk on how Carnival should develop and people involvement
 
Cllr Balvinder Saund described the Sikh Perspective of community cohesion and shared her thoughts on the 60th anniversary of India. (07960987825).
 
Cllr Gary Staight talked about the pinciple of effective Community citizenship
 
 
All that attended enjoyed the event that went without hitch and enjoyed preferential weather.  The evnt had no significant incidents much due to the dilligence of Security officers from A.A. Security Ltd.
 
To clarify to all reporters Redbridge Carnival is an event that is devised to be of the people, with the People and for the people - hence in the spirit of community cohesiona and to ensure that no sector of our community is marginalised the vent will always be a free entry event with intention to promote community cohesion.
 
Feedback post-event has indicated 100% satisfaction for all!
